Major League Baseball could start in-season testing for human growth hormone next year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Scott Tolzien Jersey men's . -- Major League Baseball could start in-season testing for human growth hormone next year. Each player was given a blood test for HGH during spring training as part of the labour contract that was agreed to in November, which allows blood testing during the off-season and spring training, and if there is reasonable cause. Union head Michael Weiner, speaking to the Baseball Writers Association of America before Tuesday nights All-Star game, said players will be discussing whether to expand testing to the regular season in 2013. "We have just elected, as we do in June of even-number years, a new executive board, a new group of player reps, and over the second half of the season well be trying to generate what the consensus is," Weiner said. "There is at least a possibility, Im not going to predict which way its going to go, but theres at least a possibility that we could have in-season testing of some form as soon as next year." The blood testing that began in spring training could be expanded to the post-season, but that doesnt appear likely to happen this year. "Every single 40-man roster player was tested for blood this spring. I believe, Im not certain, but believe that is the most athletes that have ever been tested for blood in any sport at any time, to have 1,200 tests," Weiner said. "What our agreement says is that the parties would get together to discuss the possibility of extending random testing into the post-season. Those discussions will happen at some point at the end of the year." No major leaguer has been announced as testing positive for HGH. Under the new labour contract the identity of substances that cause positive tests are made public. HGH is detectable only in blood tests, not in the urine tests that baseball has used since 2004. Weiner also addressed the case of Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun, whose positive drug test last October was overturned by arbitrator Shyam Das after the NL MVP argued the specified collection procedures were not followed. The drug collector didnt take the urine sample directly from Miller Park to a Federal Express office. Players and management have since rewritten the collection procedures. "I dont think it was resolved on a technicality. Ryan doesnt think it was resolved on a technicality," Weiner said. "It was a fundamental piece of the agreement that all the procedures have to be observed and they werent. But thats in the eye of the beholder -- whether you want to call that a fundamental error, whether you want to call that a technicality. What we proved was this was not a valid collection, and therefore collection had to be thrown out, and the case did not proceed to questions beyond that." Weiner gave his view on Roger Clemens acquittal last month on charges he lied to Congress following the release of the Mitchell Report. The seven-time Cy Young Award winner repeatedly denied using steroids and HGH. "Roger Clemens was exonerated legally, but everybody knows, Roger himself, that theres really no winners in that," Weiner said. "He can be exonerated legally and people are still going to think what theyre going to think." The Mitchell Report in 2007 contained allegations from Clemens former personal trainer, Brian McNamee, that McNamee injected the pitcher with performance-enhancing drugs. "The Mitchell Report will stand when history judges it as another very constructive step in a process that cleaned up a sport quickly," commissioner Bud Selig said, adding that the Clemens verdict "is not relevant to me as far as the Mitchell Report." Hakeem Nicks Mens Jersey . Both aces folded midway through a seesaw game that went to the Los Angeles Dodgers because their relievers performed a little bit better than their counterparts on the Chicago White Sox. James Loney scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Matt Thornton in the eighth inning, and the Dodgers beat the White Sox 7-6 on Friday night in the opener of an interleague series between division leaders. Alex Rios hit his second homer of the game in the top half of the eighth, but the Dodgers went in front again in the bottom half. Loney started the winning rally with a one-out single against Thornton (2-4). Dee Gordon walked and Elian Herrera grounded into a fielders choice, putting runners at the corners. Bobby Abreu batted for Ronald Belisario (2-0) and Gordon took off for second as Thorntons first pitch to Abreu bounced past A.J. Pierzynski. "We werent holding the guy on, so there was no need to rush the pitch," Pierzynski said. "He just made a bad pitch. It happens." Belisario pitched 1 1-3 innings for the victory and Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth for his 11th save in 14 chances. Kershaw was charged with five runs -- four earned -- and eight hits over six innings with seven strikeouts. "Baseball goes in cycles and it has its ups and downs," Kershaw said. "I mean, this games not easy. Just because you had a couple of good starts, this game will continue to humble you. So youve just got to keep battling and competing. "They have some big-name guys over there. The lack of familiarity didnt really bother me too much, but its definitely different that facing the same teams in the NL West over and over again. Thats for sure." Sale, trying to win his sixth straight start, took an AL-leading 2.05 ERA into his marquee matchup against Kershaw, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner. But Chicagos 23-year-old left-hander didnt get out of the sixth inning as the Dodgers rallied against Sale and Jesse Crain for five runs, giving them a 6-5 lead. "Usually when weve had Sale on the mound, were in pretty good shape. But they battled and just beat us," slugger Adam Dunn said. Ivan De Jesus hit for Kershaw during the big rally and singled home a run to trim Chicagos lead to 5-3 after an RBI double by Juan Uribe. Gordon came up after De Jesus and bunted a line drive that tipped off the glove of first baseman Paul Konerko. But second baseman Gordon Beckham, heading toward firsst to cover on the botched sacrifice, was right there to catch it.dddddddddddd At that point, rookie manager Robin Ventura replaced Sale with Crain, who gave up a tying two-run double by Herrera and an RBI single by Juan Rivera that gave the Dodgers their first lead. But Rios erased that advantage when he belted a leadoff drive in the eighth. Sale was charged with five runs, seven hits and a season-high four walks in 5 2-3 innings after allowing no more than three runs in any of his 11 previous major league starts. "You feel good with him on the mound and a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning with the way hes been throwing, but tonight he just didnt get it done," Pierzynski said. "He walked too many guys. He walked Jerry Hairston three times, he walked Dee Gordon twice, and a couple other guys. That just cant happen. We were behind in the count on every guy." Dunn gave the White Sox a 2-0 lead in the first, driving an 0-2 pitch to right for his major league-leading 23rd homer and fourth of his career against Kershaw. The 12-year veteran has connected in each of his last five starts. "Against a guy like Kershaw, if you can get early runs its great," Dunn said. "Hes obviously one of the best in the game, if not the best, so you try to be aggressive and try to get something you can hit because hes got so many good pitches. I fell behind 0-2, so I was just trying to put the ball in play and ran into one." The Dodgers also scored in the first when Gordon walked and came all the way around on Herreras double. Herrera advanced on Pierzynskis sixth passed ball of the season, but was stranded when A.J. Ellis grounded out. The third inning began a string of three consecutive innings in which the White Sox scored one run. Konerko hit an RBI single, Alexei Ramirez scored on a throwing error by Gordon after he charged Orlando Hudsons infield hit to shortstop, and Rios added his seventh homer to make it 5-2. NOTES: Dunn has homered seven times in 74 at-at-bats against lefties, compared to none last season in 94 at-bats. ... Sale, who spent his two previous big league seasons as a reliever, batted in a regular-season game for the first time and had two strikeouts along with a sacrifice bunt. ... This is the sixth interleague series between the Dodgers and White Sox, who have shared the Camelback Ranch spring training facility at in Glendale, Ariz., since 2009. ... Kershaws only other regular-season start against the White Sox was on June 26, 2008, when he pitched four innings in a 2-0 loss to John Danks at Dodger Stadium.

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has entered a not guilty plea following his arrest for investigation
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has entered a not guilty plea following his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence in Northern California. Morgan Burnett Jersey . Lynchs attorney, Ivan Golde, entered the plea on Lynchs behalf in Alameda County Superior Court on Wednesday. Lynchs arraignment was originally schedule for mid-August, but Golde said he moved up the initial court hearing in order to get more access to the evidence. "We want to get going on the case right away," Golde said in a phone interview on Thursday. "This allows me to get all the documents I need." Golde said he believes that unless the case is dismissed, it will not go to trial until after the 2012 NFL season is over. That doesnt completely erase the chance of Lynch facing punishment from the NFL, but the lack of resolution in the case may delay the leagues decision. Golde said there may be a few hearings during the fall associated with the case, but Lynch would not need to be present. The Seahawks begin training camp on Saturday. Lynch was arrested early on July 14 after the California Highway Patrol reported seeing Lynch weaving on Interstate 880 in the Oakland, Calif., area. An incident report released by CHP described Lynch driving a Ford Econoline van and having two near collisions with two other vehicles driving in adjacent lanes. Lynch was charged with two counts in Alameda County, Calif.: driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and driving while having a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher. Golde said Lynch blew a .08 during a preliminary screening at the scene shortly after he was pulled over and registered slightly higher when tested at the jail on a calibrated breathalyzer machine. Golde said he believes Lynch was actually under .08 when he was pulled over and had a rising blood-alcohol level. Lynch, who joined the Seahawks via trade during the 2010 season, issued an apology last week. "I want to apologize to my family, the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL and the 12th Man for the negative attention resulting from my recent actions," Lynch said in a statement released by the team. "This is not the type of community leader I have been over the last two years or the one Im striving to become. I want to assure everyone that I will work to be better and look forward to a very exciting, and very successful season with the Seattle Seahawks." Lynch had a pair of off-field run-ins while with Buffalo, the second of which — a guilty plea in March 2009 to a misdemeanour gun charge in Los Angeles — resulted in Lynch receiving a three-game suspension for violating the NFL personal conduct policy. cheap san francisco 49ers jerseys . Now there is no telling when the league and the players will return to the bargaining table. After a one-day break following a series of formal discussions this week, the sides got back to business on Sunday. Ryan Pickett Jersey . PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns have turned to a man with 17 years of experience as an NBA player, but none as a coach, to take over the flagging team that hasnt been this bad halfway through a season in a quarter century. Lindsey Hunter, the teams player development director, was picked as its interim coach Sunday, two days after the Suns and Alvin Gentry parted ways in what the organization said was a mutual agreement. Hunter got the nod over more experienced options -- assistant coaches Elston Turner, Dan Majerle and Igor Kokoskov. "I think the simple answer is that the organization needed a jolt," general manager Lance Blanks said. "We needed something that would shock the system of us, the players, and risk trumps safety in this business. We felt this was the right person to take the risk on." Hunter, 40, is the coach for the remaining 41 games of the season. After that, Blanks said, "well open things back up and at that time select the best candidate, which may or may not be Lindsey." "But he believes he can get us to the end of the season and do the things that we need done as an organization and most importantly for these guys on the floor," Blanks added. Hunter joined the Suns in the scouting department last year and this season took over the teams new player development department. As a guard with five NBA teams, Hunter averaged 8.5 points, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 937 games, 438 as a starter. He won NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2002 and the Detroit Pistons in 2004. "Im a little overwhelmed right now," he said after leading the team through practice Sunday. "Im tired, but today was fun. If you dont know by now, Im a basketball junkie, so my ideal way to function daily is to be in the gym. It was a good day, the first day of practicing, and I think the guys enjoyed it." Hunter retired in 2010 and served in a player development job with Detroit before coming to Phoenix. As a finalist for the Orlando head coaching job last off-season, Hunter mentioned learning from the likes of Larry Brown, Doug Collins and Phil Jackson. "Ive always, since high school, considered myself a coach on the floor," Hunter said. "Ive always had really tough coaches who demanded that, and I embraced it and I actually enjoyed it." The Suns, with nine new players on their roster this season, have lost 13 of 15, including four straight at home, and at 13-28 have the worst record in the Western Conferencee.dddddddddddd They dont play again until Wednesday, when they face the Kings in Sacramento. Hunters home debut will come Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, who have the Wests second-best record at 32-9. Hunter said his goal for the team is "just getting better." "If we can get better, then Im not looking at wins and losses," he said. "And I know this job is judged by that. Im not a stranger to that, but realistically looking at it I want our team and our guys to find their confidence and just go out and play with passion. Thats basically what Im trying to do now." The emphasis, Hunter said, will be defence. "Im a defensive guy," he said. "Thats the identity that were going to try to create, is being a tough, nasty, defensive-minded team, and well go from there. Im not going to try to build Rome in a day. Were going to take it one step at a time and solidify our defence, make sure everybody understands whats going on, and then well hold them accountable from there." Backup point guard Sebastian Telfair, a big supporter of Gentry, said he wasnt surprised when Hunter got the job. "Lindseys going to hold everybody accountable," Telfair said. "He was a player. The players respect him, so Im anxious to see how this goes." The players know Hunter will bring a frank, no-nonsense approach. "Even when he was a development coach, every time I talked to him, if I make a mistake, he tells me straight to my face," Goran Dragic said, "and you know I think thats good, that everybody knows what is their role and what he is expecting from the players." Gentry was Phoenixs coach since Terry Porter was fired at the 2009 All-Star break. His time included a run to the 2010 Western Conference finals in 2010, his first full season as coach. But the team failed to make the playoffs the last two seasons. Then Steve Nash departed to the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Suns, under the direction of team president Lon Babby and Blanks, overhauled the roster. Meanwhile, owner Robert Sarver has had to face dwindling crowds at US Airways Center. Gentry tried a series of lineups to develop some sort of chemistry and consistency with no success, and he acknowledged that he understood it was time for a change. Gentry tweeted Sunday morning that he was "already bored." "Need some suggestions as to what to do to fill the day," he wrote. "Lets hear some good ones."

Although TFC is still sits in last in the Eastern Conference - and the overall table - the playoffs remain a possibility. Brent Celek Jersey . The Tide still have a chance to win another title, but they need a lot of help to even get back to the championship game. Nick Sabans squad wont lose to Western Carolina and Auburn, and a victory over Georgia in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game will bring the Tide to 12-1, the same exact record they had after defeating LSU back in January.SEATTLE -- No matter what game plan Texas Matt Harrison takes into his starts against Seattle, or the adjustments he decides to make, they all work when facing the Mariners. Harrison tossed a five-hitter for his 12th victory, Adrian Beltre had three hits and two RBIs, and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Harrisons 12th win kept him even with Tampa Bays David Price for the most in the American League and continued his streak against the Mariners. Harrison (12-4) has won eight straight starts against Seattle and is 5-0 all-time at Safeco Field. The eight straight wins over one team is the third longest streak in Rangers history. Charlie Hough won 13 straight against Cleveland and nine straight against Minnesota. "I dont know what it is really," Harrison said. "I pitch against them a lot against the season. Im really familiar with what I want to do against those guys. ... You still have to go out and execute your pitches and it seems like Ive been able to do it more against this team than any other." It was the fourth complete-game shutout for Harrison and second this season, also tossing a five-hitter against San Francisco last month. And he did it mostly without the strikeout. Harrison fanned three, tied for his season-low. Harrison wasnt sharp early, perhaps a hangover from his rough outing in the All-Star Game when he gave up three runs on four hits. But when Harrison made a mistake, they usually came with two outs and his defence was able to help him from giving Seattle any big innings. Harrison found a rhythm in the later innings and set down the final seven batters he faced. "He went out there in the seventh, eighth and ninth and did what youre supposed to do as a very good pitcher when your team has the lead," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "If you want to be in the game late, go and get those outs in the seventh, eighth and ninth. (Harrison) wants to have the ball and we had discussions a couple of months ago. If you want to finish ballgames, get outs in the seventh, eighth and ninth." Harrison threw 114 pitches, and allowed just four singles and Brendan Ryans two-out double in the fifth inning. Ian Kinsler added hiss 10th homer of the season on the first pitch of the fifth inning off Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma (1-2), who struggled through five innings.dddddddddddd But it was Beltre an inning earlier that gave Harrison cushion to work with as the Rangers took two of three from the Mariners to begin the second half of the season. Craig Gentry opened the fourth inning with a single and Elvis Andrus doubled to right with one-out. Instead of taking their chances, the Mariners intentionally walked Josh Hamilton to load the bases. Beltre followed by bouncing a single through the left side of the infield to score Gentry and Andrus and the second of his three singles. "It doesnt make me mad. It fires me up because I want that challenge," Beltre said. "I dont blame other teams for doing it, but I welcome the challenge. And I like it." Beltre was robbed of a fourth hit when Chone Figgins jumped and pulled down his line drive in the eighth. Hamilton added an RBI groundout in the first inning, his Major League-leading 76th of the season. Seattle was shut out for the 11th time this season -- tied for most in the league with Oakland -- with the only offensive highlight being rookie Jesus Montero snapping a 0-for-23 skid with a single in the first inning. Seattle got base runners on Harrison but could never get a clutch two-out hit. The Mariners most promising threat came in the seventh after a one-out single by Michael Saunders and walk to Figgins. But Harrison got Ryan to ground into a double play -- with a nice pick by Michael Young at first base -- to end the threat. "Once he got through the lineup a couple of times you saw him work that change-up and start getting guys off balance," Ryan said. "It shows how good his stuff is because he can go to his third pitch and its still pretty effective." NOTES: Texas won a road series against an AL West foe for the first time this season. ... Washington said RHP Alexi Ogando could rejoin the team on Tuesday in Oakland. Ogando has been on the DL since June 12 with a groin strain. Ogando has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock. ... Sunday was the 13th anniversary of the opening of Safeco Field.

A career milestone for Canadian Steve Nash was overshadowed by another Los Angeles Lakers loss on Tuesday night
HOUSTON -- A career milestone for Canadian Steve Nash was overshadowed by another Los Angeles Lakers loss on Tuesday night. Daniel Fells Jersey men's . James Harden scored 31 points and Chandler Parsons added 20 to help the Houston Rockets pick up their fifth straight win with a 125-112 victory over the Los Angeles. Nash, from Victoria, had 16 points and 10 assists to become only the fifth player to surpass 10,000 career assists, joining John Stockton, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson and Magic Johnson. Nash said he tweaked his back in the game, but that he was OK. "Its really hard to enjoy it right now," Nash said of the assists. "I dont want to discredit it, or not appreciate the company I share in this milestone, but right now its the farthest thing from my mind. Were just trying to find a way to win one game." Nash found Antawn Jamison on a pick-and-roll with seconds left in the first half to reach the mark and finished the game with a total of 10,005 assists over his 17-year NBA career. Kobe Bryant added 20 points for the Lakers, who lost their fourth straight to fall to 15-19, are in 11th place in the Western Conference. "I have to step outside of this frustration and say congrats to (at)SteveNash 10,000. Amazing accomplishment Wish we could have gotten u theW," tweeted Bryant after the game. Houston trailed by as many as 14 in the first half, but used a pair of runs in the third quarter to go on top and build a big lead. Metta World Peace had a season-high 24 points for the Lakers, who were playing without their top three big men: Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill -- who are all out with injuries. "I thought we had the better team," World Peace said. "We definitely had the better team, but every night we have the better team and its just not translating to wins." The Rockets have rallied from double-digit deficits for their last three wins. As usual, they did it on Tuesday night behind the strong play of Harden, who has scored at least 25 points in 13 straight games. "They were short-handed tonight, but they are still tough," Harden said of the Lakers. "We knew we couldnt take them lightly. They did a great job in the first half of really getting easy shots on us. In the second half we started to pick it up defensively. We got out in transition and made some easy shots." Howard has a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Gasol has a concussion and Hill a right hip injury. All three are out indefinitely. Seven-foot rookie centre Robert Sacre, from North Vancouver, B.C., made his first career start due to the injuries, and finished with 10 points, four blocked shots and three rebounds. "Weve just got to move forward," World Peace said. "We dont have time to feel bad for anyone. This team just has to push and move forward." Jeremy Lin chipped in 19 points with six rebounds and five assists for Houston, and Carlos Delfino also scored 19. The Rockets led by nine midway through the fourth quarter and used a 5-0 run highlighted by a three-point play by Lin to make it 112-98. Lin drove to the basket and made the layup as he fell to the court after being fouled by Sacre. "There are some things we can clean up as a group and do a better job," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. "A little more attention to detail and well do better." Houston used a 10-2 spurt early in the third quarter to tie it at 69 after a three-point play by Marcus Morris with 6 1/2 minutes left in the quarter. The Rockets then broke off a 23-11 run to take a 92-80 lead near the end of the third. Lin had nine points in that span and Harden added six. Bryant hit a jumper with about five minutes left in the third, and the Lakers didnt score another field goal until Chris Duhon made a 3-pointer with 48 seconds remaining in the quarter. Houston led 96-88 at the end of the third quarter. "Tonight we could offer up a number of excuses, but what is troubling is when we were healthy, we werent stopping people, either," Nash said. The Rockets were still down by six midway through the second quarter before a 7-0 run capped by a 3 from Delfino gave them their first lead of the game -- 47-46 -- about five minutes before halftime. The game was tied a couple of minutes later when Nash scored five quick points to put the Lakers on top 56-51. Los Angeles led 62-59 at halftime. The Lakers led 18-4 early after a run where World Peace made two 3-pointers and Darius Morris made one. The Lakers were up by 13 later in the quarter before Houston used a 12-5 spurt powered by two 3s from Delfino to cut the lead to 34-28 at the end of the first quarter. NOTES: Gasol was examined by a neurologist on Tuesday and was not cleared to play. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday. ... Hardens 13 straight games with at least 25 points are tied with Moses Malone for the such streak in franchise history. ... He was 69. In March 2011, Sabol was diagnosed with a tumour on the left side of his brain after being hospitalized for a seizure. He started working with his father, Ed -- NFL Films founder -- in 1964, and they introduced a series of innovations now taken for granted today, from slow-motion replays to sticking microphones on coaches and players. "Steve Sabol was the creative genius behind the remarkable work of NFL Films," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement from the league confirming Sabols death. "Steves passion for football was matched by his incredible talent and energy. Steves legacy will be part of the NFL forever. He was a major contributor to the success of the NFL, a man who changed the way we look at football and sports, and a great friend." Ed Sabol was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year. The two received the Lifetime Achievement Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2003. Steve Sabol has also received the Pete Rozelle Award, presented each year to someone who made an outstanding contribution to professional football.dddddddddddd In 2007, the Hall of Fame honoured him with the Dan Reeves Pioneer Award. "We see the game as art as much as sport," he told The Associated Press before his fathers Hall induction. "That helped us nurture not only the games traditions but to develop its mythology: Americas Team, The Catch, The Frozen Tundra." Sabol received 35 Emmys for writing, cinematography, editing, directing and producing. No one else had ever earned that many Emmys in as many different categories. He began his career as a cinematographer under his father. He was the perfect fit for the job: an all-Rocky Mountain Conference running back at Colorado College majoring in art history. The Sabols treated sport as film and changed the way Americans watched and perceived games. Their advances included everything from reverse angle replays to setting highlights to pop music. "Today of course those techniques are so common its hard to imagine just how radical they once were," the younger Sabol told the AP last year. "Believe me, it wasnt always easy getting people to accept them, but I think it was worth the effort."

Not at all unusual, coach Rex Ryan says. Nothing to read into it. "Marks job is to play quarterback, not be the general manager," Ryan told reporters Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings. Ryan explained that if a current Jet "has a history" with a player, there might be discussion about adding that player to New Yorks roster. That was the case when the Jets drafted running back Joe McKnight, a former teammate of Sanchez at Southern Cal. The closest interaction Sanchez has had with Tebow was when he hosted Tebow on a recruiting visit at USC. "You dont focus on one individual. Thats not whats in the best interest of the team. I see quarterback as being a different (position), but there are three factors when making any decision: team, team and team." On Monday, Sanchez also said he had no expectation of being consulted about the move. "Its not their job to ask me either, or run it by me," he said. "Thats not my job." His job is starting quarterback, although the number of snaps he takes from centre Nick Mangold will decrease in 2012, perhaps significantly. Ryans plan, implemented by former Dolphins coach Tony Sparano -- a mastermind of the wildcat offence, Ryan insisted -- will call for anywhere up to 20 plays with Tebow at quarterback. Thats a lot of plays fourth-year QB Sanchez, with his three-year contract extension, wont be handling the ball. Ryan claims hes not troubled by that dynamic, or anything else about adding more drama to a team that might lead the league in headlines, particularly negative ones. "Competition is good. I think you play better with competition," Ryan said. "But I dont think Mark cares who is behind him. Mark, in his mind, he will be the guy. "Mark is a lot more confident than people give him credit for. Its not like Mark doesnt have an outstanding resume as a starter." But Sanchez didnt progress last seasson after leading the Jets to the AFC title game in each of his first two years as a pro.dddddddddddd. Plus, there was turmoil in the locker room, with Sanchez as one of the focal points. Now add Tebow, among the most popular players in sports, but also a polarizing figure because of his strong religious beliefs. While Ryan sees the potential for distraction and a quarterback controversy, he appears comfortable with the setup the Jets have created. "I understand that," he said of Tebows persona and notoriety. "I could say he is one of 53 guys. Hes not, he has a great following. "For us, I am worried about football. We feel Tim brings something to our football team that will add to our team. Hes not just a backup player, but the things he can do ... because of his unique skill set." Its not as if the Jets havent lived with a circus atmosphere in Ryans three seasons as coach. Until they went 8-8 last year, losing their final three games to drop out of contention, they seemed to thrive in the wild, sometimes chaotic environment. That changed with their first non-playoff finish under Ryan. "At the end of the season, we had guys butting heads," Ryan said. "Its not uncommon any time you are not meeting expectations. It happens. Weve got to tighten the grip a little bit together and I am confident we will. "I feel weve been pushed into a corner and I know well come out swinging. I hope we dont hit each other; we did a bit of that last year." He was smiling when he said that. The smile didnt disappear when Ryan was asked about a reprise of the Jets memorable appearance on the HBO show "Hard Knocks" before the 2010 season. But he did shake his head. "Hard Knocks was good for our team," Ryan said. "We had a lot of national games, different distractions, if you will, with that show. When we got to the season, it was, This is nothing. We had cameras in our faces with Hard Knocks, had nothing to hide, would be ourselves. "I dont know about all that right now."

In a matter of three days, the Golden State Warriors have restructured their roster in a way they believe
OAKLAND, Calif. Jason Pierre-Paul Mens Jersey . -- In a matter of three days, the Golden State Warriors have restructured their roster in a way they believe will truly transform them into a playoff team next season. General manager Larry Riley, owner Joe Lacob and first-year coach Mark Jackson are tired of just talking about the post-season. The Warriors traded swingman Stephen Jackson to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday for small forward Richard Jefferson and a conditional first-round draft pick this year. "There is no doubt in our mind that our roster has improved by leaps and bounds," Riley said Thursday. "We had to change this thing. Weve changed the Warriors organization in terms of the way we do business and our roster. I dont want to sit in front of the media like I did last year and say I like our team and I dont like our record." Golden State acquired Jackson -- who helped the Warriors reach the second round of the playoffs in 2007 -- and centre Andrew Bogut from the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown. There was immediate thought that the Warriors would then try to deal Jackson by Thursdays NBA trade deadline. The team also finalized everything in the trade with Milwaukee, with all players passing their physicals. Bogut will be formally introduced before Friday nights game against the Bucks. The Warriors were able to deal "Captain Jack" and get a much coveted first-round pick in the process. Golden State had previously agreed to send its first round pick to Utah if it is not in the top seven. The Warriors now will likely be back in the first round. San Antonios pick is lottery protected, but the Spurs are in second place in the Western Conference so that will probably not be an issue. Jefferson is expected in Oakland on Friday, but still must pass a physical. Riley didnt rule him out to play against Milwaukee. "Hes a player who has had a tremendous amount of respect from different people around the league," Riley said. "Hes been in a lot of playoff games and our objective is to get him in some more playoff games. We know the situation this year and how tough its going to be closing out this year. Weve significantly changed this team. We have a solid coach, we have a solid roster." The Warriors also acquired the rights to T.J. Ford, who announced his retirement earlier this week following the latest scare to his surgically repaired spine. Riley said Ford "basically made the deal work for both sides." Riley had been prepared for Stephen Jackson to return to the Warriors, and when the GM spoke before Wednesdays game against Boston he hinted that would likely happen. Then, he and Spurs general manager R.C. Buford worked through the night -- and Lacob received details of the trade first thing Thursday morning before signing off on the move. "I didnt put a lot of faith in what could happen and I was a little cautious about it," said Riley, who received inquiries from four teams regarding Jackson. "Sometimes at the late hour things move quickly." In addition Thursday, the Warriors acquired a second-round pick for this Junes draft from the Atlanta Hawks for cash considerations in an earlier deal. Mark Jackson spoke before the trade was announced in general terms about owner Joe Lacob and the organizations commitment to building a playoff-calibre roster for the future. Golden States post-season run in 07 is the organizations lone playoff berth since 1994. "One thing I will say is that weve made a commitment as an organization to do whatever we have to do to get to where we want to get to," Jackson said after practice. "These fans should be excited in knowing that that promise is true. Its exciting to be part of it. ... Again, doing whatever it takes to put ourselves in position to continue to get pieces to be the team we expect to be. It says a lot about this ownership. Its just great to be part of it. Ive seen the other side." Rookie Klay Thompson appreciates the efforts being made to upgrade the roster moving forward. "I think Warriors management is doing a great job," Thompson said. "Theyre not going to make any moves that are going to move this team backward. Im happy with it, and I support whatever they do." The 31-year-old Jefferson is averaging 9.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game this season for the Spurs. He could be in the Bay Area in time for Friday nights game against the Bucks, which will mark Ellis much-hyped, quick return to Oracle Arena in an opposing uniform. "Its going to be very odd," Mark Jackson said of seeing Ellis and Udoh suit up for the Bucks. "In my short period, obviously those are two guys that I love, developed great relationships with. Im proud to say that I coached them. I have a lot to be grateful for them. Its going to be different, but Im going to be one of the people thats going to be clapping for them. It will be my first time clapping. I never turn around when the other team is being introduced. Im not sure whether Ill turn around for those two guys, if theyre starting or when they come in, but I will be clapping, no question about that." Everybody knows he will try to go off for a big night against his former teammates -- and Jackson is preparing for a defensive challenge. Ellis is averaging 21.9 points, 6.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds. The Warriors will have a game plan for Ellis. "He knows," Jackson said, chuckling. "The thing about it is its no secret. The guy is such a great player that well defend him the way that everybody tried to defend him. Hell have some success. Its going to be a great challenge but were up for the challenge and its going to be a lot of fun." Seth Joyner Jersey . - Nine Canadian wrestlers received their ticket to London today, as they were nominated the Canadian Olympic Team. Kyle Williams Jersey . 1 Venus Williams highlighted Wednesdays second-round winners at the Australian Open. Darvish was scratched from his start Thursday with right quadriceps tightness. Rangers manager Ron Washington said Sunday that the Japanese rookie will take his turn in the rotation Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Darvish threw 30 pitches in the bullpen and took fielding practice Saturday. Sundays workout also included agility drills, and Darvish said that he was physically fine afterward. "It feels very good," Darvish said through an interpreter. "If I had made that start (Thursday), I think I was physically able do so." Darvish originally felt discomfort last Tuesday. The Rangers deciided to skip the All-Stars turn in the rotation as a precaution.dddddddddddd Darvish is 12-9 with a 4.51 ERA. He has 172 strikeouts, which ranks fourth in the American League. "I had the same physical preparation," Darvish said. "With my delivery, I was able to do the same things." In addition to Darvishs expected return, the Rangers reinstated right-hander Koji Uehara (strained right lat) from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday. To make room for Uehara, the club optioned right-hander Tanner Scheppers to Triple-A Round Rock. Uehara, who has a 2.11 ERA in 20 games, last pitched June 9. He made three rehab appearances in Round Rock before rejoining the roster. Scheppers was 1-0 with a 4.56 ERA in 29 appearances.

Chipper Jones absorbed every moment of a performance he said hell cherish in retirement
ATLANTA -- Chipper Jones absorbed every moment of a performance he said hell cherish in retirement. Brett Favre mens Jersey . The newly chosen All-Star, delivered his first five-hit game in a decade, driving in four runs Tuesday night and leading the Atlanta Braves over the Chicago Cubs 10-3. Jones was added to the NL All-Star roster before the game. The 40-year-old third baseman replaced injured Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. He then played like an All-Star at the plate, on defence and with his first stolen base of the season. Jones, who plans to retire after this season, went 5 for 5 for his third career five-hit game and first since Aug. 11, 2002. "Tonight was just one of those dream games," Jones said. "I would be hard-pressed to find a game in which I played better." After his fifth hit, a single in the eighth inning, Jones was lifted for pinch runner Juan Francisco. Jones tipped his batting helmet as he received an ovation on his way to the dugout. He emerged from the dugout for another wave to the fans as the cheers continued. "That was fun. That was a lot of fun," Jones said. "Its just another one to file in the memory bank from my last year. It has been pretty special to this point." Jones hit a three-run double in the sixth. He has a season-best 10-game hitting streak and is hitting .313. "I dont think that swing is ready to retire," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. Jones added a defensive highlight in the eighth inning when he fielded Darwin Barneys grounder behind third base and, while in foul territory, threw him out at first. "Impressive," Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens said. "He stole the show today. He carried us." Jurrjens (2-2) gave up nine hits and three runs, all unearned, in five innings. Reliever Kris Medlen pitched three perfect innings. The Cubs led 3-1 before Michael Bourn hit a bases-loaded triple in Atlantas five-run fifth. Martin Prados sacrifice fly and Jason Heywards 13th homer in the inning pushed the Braves lead to 6-3, chasing Chris Volstad out of the game. Volstad (0-7) was promoted from Triple-A Iowa for the start. He gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks in 4 1-3 innings. "He didnt really pitch to the game plan and that was discouraging," Sveum said, adding Volstad didnt follow catcher Steve Clevenger. Sveum said Volstad will have another chance. "We dont have any options, so well run him out there again," Sveum said. "As of now we dont have any other options." The loss left Volstad with 20 consecutive starts without a win. It is the longest winless streak in the majors since Jo-Jo Reyes made 28 straight winless starts for the Braves and the Blue Jays from 2008-11, according to STATS LLC. Volstad was winless in his last 11 starts with Florida in 2011 and hasnt won in nine starts over two stints with the Cubs this season. "Its definitely a learning process," Volstad said. "I think its just a matter of trying to be too perfect. Too fine. "I just need to relax." Bourn walked in the first and scored when Jones single dropped in front of David DeJesus in centre field. DeJesus dove and trapped the ball. Cubs relievers Rafael Dolis and Jairo Asencio combined to walk six batters in the sixth, helping the Braves score four runs on only one hit -- Jones bases-loaded double to right field. Prado forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk from Asencio. The start of the game was delayed by rain for 52 minutes. Following the rain, the first-pitch temperature was 72 degrees, a drop of more than 20 degrees. NOTES: Volstads last win came on July 10, 2011 with Florida against Houston. ... The Cubs optioned RHP Casey Coleman to Triple-A Iowa to clear a roster spot for Volstad. Coleman gave up seven earned runs, his career high as a reliever, in last Wednesdays 17-1 loss to the Reds. ... MASON, Ohio -- Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer won their opening matches at the Western & Southern Open in straight sets Wednesday, getting accustomed to the heat after spending the last two weeks in London and Canada. Djokovic got the bronze medal at the Olympics in London, then won the Rogers Cup in Toronto on Sunday night. He was a little off in his opening set on a court baked in sunshine and 86-degree heat, before pulling away from Andreas Seppi of Italy 7-6 (4), 6-2. "Sometimes its really hard to try to stay fit for every single tournament and try to perform your best," Djokovic said. "I mean, in the last three, four weeks, I have changed three different cities, places, surfaces, conditions. Im still trying to figure out where I am." Murray had the best moment of his career at Wimbledon, winning the Olympic gold on home soil. He had to withdraw from the Rogers Cup because of a sore knee, which he blamed on the transition from grass to hard courts. Murray, the defending champion in Cincinnati, moved around the court well during his 6-2, 6-4 win over Sam Querrey. The American repeatedly missed open shots while falling behind and managed only two break points during the match, both of which Murray saved. "It felt fine," Murray said of his knee. "I moved well today. It still was giving me a little bit of trouble in practice for a couple of days before the tournament, but it felt fine, much better on the court today. I moved well, so Im hoping it wont be a problem." Federer had no trouble in his evening match against Russias Alex Bogomolov, winning 6-3, 6-2 in exactly one hour. He served 12 aces and didnt face a break point until the final game of the match. Federer skipped the Rogers Cup, so it was his first match back on a hard court. "Its nice to be back on the hard courts," Federer said. "I served really well. He struggled to get into some rallies." On the womens side, top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland also advanced to the third round with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden. Venus Williams moved on with her second three-set victory in two days. Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan quit her match while trailing in the second set, overcome by the heat, and also dropped out of her later doubles match. Radwanska, who received a first-round bye, felt a little rusty. "The first match is always more difficult, with the different balls and conditions," she said. "I was happy to get through it, especially since it was very hot. Hopefully, Ill better (Thursday)." Radwanska, who lost to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final and is ranked No. 3 in the world, will meet Sloane Stephens of the United States, who got into the tournament as a wild card. "Ill just go out and play my game," Stephens said, adding with a smile, "Im not going to tell you how Im going to play, because shell probably read this and know how to play." Venus Williams won the gold medal in doubles with her sister in London and arrived for the tournament in suburban Cincinnati upbeat. She needed three sets and 2 hours, 23 minutes to win her opening match Tuesday, then followed it with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Russias CChanelle Scheepers in the afternoon heat that lasted an hour and 46 minutes.dddddddddddd After Scheepers long return ended it, Williams briefly raised her arm in celebration, walked slowly to the net to shake hands, and sat down and rubbed her forehead with both hands. Eleventh-seeded Dominka Cibulkova withdrew with an injury after losing the first set in a tiebreaker against qualifier Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic. Chinas Shuai Peng also advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Roberta Vinci of Italy. In mens action, Canadian Milos Raonic struggled for more than two hours before finally overcoming former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-4 to reach the third round of the Western & Southern Open. The 21-year-old got out of trouble repeatedly with his serve, which produced 22 aces. He had 12 Tuesday night when he opened with a victory over Rogers Cup finalist Richard Gasquet. Raonic improved to 2-0 over the recently married Baghdatis after beating the Cypriot last October at an indoor tournament in Stockholm, Sweden. Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., hit 46 winners, and broke Baghdatis for a 5-4 lead in the final set. But he had trouble finishing out the win, and had to save three break points in the next game. He finally got an opening as he earned a match point and finished the job on a Baghdatis error. Baghdatis was treated for a back and hip problem in the second set, but didnt seem to affect his play. Raonic saved all six of the break points he faced and he profited from 33 Baghdatis errors. "It was hot and maybe the ball was just going through the court a little bit quicker, but I started off the match not playing aggressive enough," said Raonic. "I started playing too flat, just to the way he likes, and then I was sort of figuring out a few points here and there. "I didnt really have a solution consistently throughout the match, so that sort of made it difficult." Raonic, ranked a career-high 19th in the world, next faces Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, a regular in the ATP top 10. The two have never played each other before. "Were both going to be going for our shots," said the Canadian, "For myself, on my serve its going to be a priority to really try to dictate as much as possible; on the returns, just sort of make him try to play as much as possible and hopefully create some opportunities with it." No. 10-seeded Mardy Fish of the United States advanced to the third round by defeating Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 6-3, 6-1. Serbian Victor Troicki moved on to the third round with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Australian Lleyton Hewitt. Nikolay Davydenko of Russia beat Florian Meyer of Germany 6-3, 6-3. Fish was happy to advance relatively easily against an unfamiliar opponent while still working back into form after a surgical procedure to correct a heart condition in May. "It was nice to get on and off quickly, especially with a win," said Fish, whod never played Berlocq in singles. "You also can get on and off quickly with a loss. Its somewhat tricky. You never know what to expect. I played as well today as I have all summer. Hes a good player. If youre not on top of your game, you could be in trouble."

Canadas tennis ranks are getting some reinforcements
TORONTO -- Canadas tennis ranks are getting some reinforcements, but possibly not in time for a high-profile Davis Cup match against Spain. Rob Ninkovich Jersey men's . A Tennis Canada spokesman has confirmed that Jesse Levine is applying to tennis authorities to represent Canada rather than the U.S. The 25-year-old Levine, currently ranked 104th in the world, was born in Ottawa but moved to the U.S. when he was 13. The ATP lists his residence as Boca Raton, Fla. "Hes been on our radar for a while," said Louis-Philippe Dorais, Tennis Canadas director of communications and marketing. "But now its pretty much for sure hell be representing Canada from now on." Levine has petitioned the International Tennis Federation to represent Canada. "Its just a matter of timing," Dorais said. "As far as will he be eligible to play Davis Cup for us in February, probably not. But for the rest, its pretty much a formality that hell be representing Canada from now on." Canada, seeded 12th, hosts top-ranked Spain in Vancouver Feb. 1-3 in a first-round World Group match. Based on current rankings, Levine would be the countrys second-ranked player behind Milos Raonic (No. 13). Vasek Pospisil is currently No. 2 with a ranking of No. 125. Levine is headed to the Australian Open in January after winning a wild card by defeating Robby Ginepri 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 in a U.S. Tennis Association playoff. He teamed up with Michael Shabaz to win the junior doubles title at Wimbledon in 2005, when he reached a career-high No. 14 in the junior rankings. Levine turned heads in one year at the University of Florida before moving to the pro ranks in 2007. That year he spent 10 weeks training in Dubai with Swiss star Roger Federer, according to the ATP. The five-foot-nine 150-pounder has won US$264,222 this year on the ATP Tour and $867,967 over his career. His career-high ranking was 69th in January. C.J. Wilson mens Jersey . It was Ronaldos third hat trick this season and the 18th of his Madrid career, but his opening goal in the third minute was the pick of the three.Leading up to SportsCentres Year In Review on Christmas Eve, TSN and TSN.ca look back at each of the Top 10 stories of 2012. And TSNs reporters and analysts who covered the events as they happened offer their personal reflections on the stories. Today, TSNs Chris Schultz looks back at Eli Manning leading the Giants to another memorable Super Bowl victory. I remember it well. Final score - New York Giants 21, New England Patriots 17. I had just witnessed the conclusion to an incredible run of winning football by the Giants that was inspiring in itself. After being 7-7, the Giants had to win their last two games just to make the playoffs. And they did. They then has to Atlanta, Green Bay and San Francisco. And they did. And finally, they had to topple the team everyone loves to hate in the New England Patriots. And they did. My thoughts went back to the Giants 2007 game when Eli Manning - in desperation - completed a pass that should have been intercepted. And again a sideline pass to Mario Manningham that should have never been caught. I remembered the elation of the players after that game and pretty much witnessed the same elation again this time around. Watching athletes that have trained so hard in a sport that is physically punishing - with each one under so much pressure - was inspiring. I have always enjoyed sports more than most things in life because its real. And thats not slamming other interests in life, but football and sports are real. That Super Bowl win by the Giants was reality and the rings they received prove it. What the Giants accomplished was soo similar to what Green Bay did the year before - they peaked in December and made it happen in January.dddddddddddd Were they they best team in reality? Not really. They were 9-7 and expectations were guarded even by the most loyal of Giants fans. But the fact that they won it all as a sixth seed in the NFC is inspiring in its self. Why? Because its one of the realities of football that I believe transfers to life...you dont have to be the best, you only have to be the best that day. Its interesting when you think of success in football or in any occupation - is it really about the best or is it about being the best in the moment, at the minute, for an hour or on that particular day? It is impossible for anyone to be on top of their game, 24 hours a day - every day. Be your best when it counts. Thats what the Giants did and that was the lesson learned for me because it was the same thing the Packers did the previous year. I have always liked football because its such a focused process - once a week where you put all your cards on the table. And he who has the better cards that day wins. But in the end, the 21-17 win by the Giants didnt change that which was important. But it makes you feel good. And when you feel good, you do good work and when you do good work you do what is good. Its often expressed that its the journey as much as the accomplishment that gives you sense of satisfaction. Very true. But if you want both - the journey and the satisfaction - all you have to do is be the best day by day. Or in the case or the Giants, the most important day. Super Bowl Sunday.

Officially -- at least in their comments -- NFL players and coaches arent concerning themselves with refereering
NEW YORK -- Officially -- at least in their comments -- NFL players and coaches arent concerning themselves with refereering. Sebastian Vollmer Jersey . The NFL and its locked-out officials werent talking two days before the season begins, a clear indication replacements will be on the field for Wednesday nights opener. Doesnt matter, according to many of the guys who call the plays or carry them out. "Were going to play the games regardless," Chargers All-Pro safety Eric Weddle said Monday. "Everyone makes mistakes. I make mistakes. Its just the way human nature is. You cant get hard on guys that are trying to do the best they can. Youve just got to deal with it. "Each week, each game, each practice, theyll get better, so its not a concern of ours. Regardless, weve got to go out there and execute and take it out of their hands. Lets go out and play good football, execute at a high level and then they wont be in position to throw flags and make judgment calls." Broncos coach John Fox echoed those thoughts. "In this game youve got to overcome a lot of things," Fox said. "Youve got to overcome the other team. Sometimes youve got to overcome your own mistakes. So, officials have always been a part of it and theyve never been an excuse. So, I dont care whos out there, weve got to worry about how were playing and well deal with whatever they call, whether its old guys, new guys, middle guys. Their stuff sometimes influences the game, but youve got to overcome that." Both sides met for three days last week, but did not reach an agreement to end the three-month lockout. The replacement officials who worked the preseason games amid much criticism will handle the Cowboys at Giants opener and the other 15 games on the weekend. "You just have to play your game. You cant even pay any attention to it now at this point," Giants receiver Victor Cruz said Monday. "You just have to go out there and trust that they are spending time in the meeting rooms and those referee rooms, reading the plays and getting the calls down." The league and the NFL Referees Association, which covers more than 120 on-field officials, are at odds over salary, retirement benefits and operational issues. The NFL has said its offer includes annual pay increases that could earn an experienced official more than $200,000 annually by 2018. The NFLRA has disputed the value of the proposal, insisting it would ultimately reduce their compensation. With the stalemate, the NFL will use replacements in the regular season for the first time since the opening week of 2001, days after the terrorist attacks. Many of those replacements came from the highest levels of college football, something that has changed drastically this year. The current replacement crews are comprised of mainly of officials from the Arena League, and the NCAA Division II and III levels. The league said it will handle the officiating assignments the same way it does in any other year, with the crew for Wednesday nights game not being announced in advance -- even though theres increased interest in who works the game. "Its one of those things where you just look out there and its like the difference between having a high school guy play in the NFL versus an NFL guy playing in the NFL," Vikings punter Chris Kluwe said. "The speeds totally different. Those guys are trying hard, but theyre just not used to the speed of the game and theyre missing a lot of stuff." But they are missing stuff for both teams. Coaches and players alike are trying not to let that enter their minds as they prepare for their openers. "I know that these guys are coming in here doing the best that they can, but its really out of our control. It doesnt matter if we have flag football officials, weve got to go out and play the best that we can and hopefully get a few calls along the way," Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel said. Daniel Fells Jersey . Financial terms of the deal were not released, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported it is a five-year deal worth around $45 million. Bryant McKinnie Jersey . MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies have changed owners officially, and the new bosses want to make clear their commitment to staying in Tennessee very clear. "The Grizzlies are here to stay in Memphis," new Grizzlies chairman Robert J. Pera said. The Grizzlies announced Wednesday that the reported $377 million sale by Michael Heisley had been finalized to a group led by Pera, a former Apple engineer who founded the communications technology company Ubiquiti Networks. The group includes local businessmen, entertainer Justin Timberlake, Memphis native and former NBA player Penny Hardaway, a former U.S. congressman and Ashley Manning, wife of four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning. The Grizzlies open the season Wednesday night at the Los Angeles Clippers, and the new owners will hold a news conference Monday morning before the home opener that night against Utah. Pera said in a statement the group is "thrilled" to take ownership of the Grizzlies. "We see enormous potential and understand the role the Grizzlies play in bringing Memphians together," Pera said in a statement. "We are committed to building a winning team with a best-in-class orgganizational culture, finding new and creative ways to engage with our fans, and making a positive and meaningful difference in the community.dddddddddddd" Pera already had agreed to three provisions to ensure the Grizzlies will be sticking around Memphis for another 15 years. Those include a $100 million penalty if the Grizzlies are moved, the right of first refusal for local owners to match any offer for Pera to sell the team and the right of local owners to buy the team from Pera at the current price should he want to move the franchise. Heisley had owned the Grizzlies for 11 years and relocated the franchise from Vancouver to Memphis. He said in a statement that owning the Grizzlies was one of the most rewarding business ventures of his career. "I am confident that the franchise will continue its development toward being a perennial championship contender and an important member of the Memphis community," Heisley said. "I am particularly gratified that we have put together a team which is poised to continue its improvement. In Robert, we have a new owner who has expressed a total commitment to build on our success in Memphis."

Ike Davis has no idea what all the fuss is about
NEW YORK -- Ike Davis has no idea what all the fuss is about. Kyle Arrington Jersey . The New York Mets first baseman responded Tuesday to an ESPNNewYork.com report that said, citing an anonymous baseball source, the team will consider trading him this off-season in part because of concerns that hes resistant to coaching and stays out too late. "I dont really have an answer for that because its never been an issue. Ive never done anything wrong," Davis told reporters. "I show up to the field ready to play every day. I really dont even know where its coming from and its not really true." Davis said hes never had a meeting with the Mets about his nightlife, and the criticism came "out of the blue." "Its hard to answer questions when no one can say who it was or why they even said it," Davis explained. "I dont know if its a cheap shot. Its falsely accused, I guess. But it just comes out of nowhere and it happens to athletes like this. A rumour, or something said, and its blown out of proportion, so you really cant do anything about it." Mets manager Terry Collins defended Davis, saying theres no way he could have played 141 games already this season if he was partying too hard all the time. Collins hinted that such behaviour was more common in baseball 20 years ago -- before there was testing for amphetamines -- but now players cant simply "fix it" if theyre tired or have a hangover. "Theres not a coach in that office, not the manager, the front office, that has ever brought up a problem with Ike Davis," Collins said. "So that is as far from the truth as anything Ive ever read. "I just want to make sure everybody understands -- were behind Ike Davis 100 per cent. I dont want this to ever be a defamation on his character. Hes a stand-up guy. Matter of fact, speaks the truth above and beyond the need for it," he added. Davis, who played only 36 games last season because of an ankle injury, was confounded by the whole thing. "I dont know what late is because when you leave the ballpark at 12, you get back to your place at 12:30, you watch a movie, its 2:30. Is that late?" he said. "Its up to everyone to decide what late is. If I had a job where I had to wake up at 6 in the morning it might be late, but its not. So our lifestyle is a little different." Davis was penciled in to bat cleanup Tuesday night before New Yorks game against the Philadelphia Phillies was postponed because of inclement weather. The game was called about three hours before it was supposed to start and will be made up at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, originally a day off for both clubs. The surging Phillies began the day trailing St. Louis by 3 1/2 games for the second NL wild-card spot with 14 to play, though other teams were in their path. "For me, Id just as soon play today. I dont know sometimes if sitting helps you or not," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said. Light rain was falling on a blustery evening at Citi Field, with a howling wind whipping through the ballpark under overcast skies. The forecast called for thunderstorms throughout the night. Across town, the game between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees also was postponed. Cole Hamels will pitch Wednesday night for Philadelphia against Mets rookie Matt Harvey, slated to make his final start of the season. The Phillies bumped Tyler Cloyd from Tuesday to Thursday, when he will face fellow rookie Jeremy Hefner. Davis got off to a horrendous start this season and the Mets considered sending him to the minors to work through his struggles. Supportive teammates, however, expressed to the club their desire that he stay with them in the big leagues -- and Davis rebounded. He is hitting only .223 but leads the Mets (66-81) with 27 home runs and is tied with David Wright for tops on the team in RBIs (81). "If youve seen my stances this year, weve tried a lot of things," Davis said. "Ive done everything the coaches have asked me." After seeing the report, he said he asked New Yorks coaches if they had any issue with him and they said no. "It doesnt even really make sense," Davis said. "Youd think that would have come out when I was hitting .100 with no home runs and no RBIs. But since that, Ive done better. Now its coming out. Its kind of weird." The 25-year-old Davis, in his third big league season, is one of the few Mets position players who might draw aggressive interest from other teams. If he was traded for much-needed help in other areas, New York could go with Lucas Duda at first base, his natural position. Duda has showed power potential but he struggled to adapt to the outfield this season and was demoted to the minors for a month. "Now, as far as a possible trade, theres not a guy in that clubhouse who cant get traded. Not a guy," Collins said. "Ike was upset today, he came to see me and I said, Look, unfortunately, how some things work, perception is reality in baseball, as we know. If youre accused of not playing hard, the only way to change it -- play really, really, really hard every day. And you fight that. So I told Ike, You know what? You fight it. Finish strong and then give them something to write about. Give them something really positive to write about." Trent Cole Jersey . The Orlando Magic have extended a qualifying offer to forward Ryan Anderson
ORLANDO, Fla. LaMichael James Jersey . -- The Orlando Magic have extended a qualifying offer to forward Ryan Anderson, the team announced. New general manager Rob Henningan made the move Thursday, which allows the team to retain the right to match any offer the third-year forward and reigning NBA Most Improved Player receives on the open market. Anderson becomes a restricted free agent on July 1. He is one of four key players on the Magics roster facing contract matters this summer. All-Star Dwight Howard has yet to sign a deal beyond next year. If you take all hope away from a human being, he will self-destroy. EDMONTON -- The NHL players union says the argument is simple: Alberta labour laws apply to the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. The NHL Players Association was in Edmonton on Friday to try to get the Alberta Labour Relations Board to declare the current lockout illegal. NHLPA lawyer Bob Blair told the panel that the teams are Alberta businesses, so provincial labour laws have to be followed. "No one gets to choose what labour laws apply to them in this province," Blair said. "The law is the law is the law." He argued that players from the Oilers and Flames have never agreed to forgo their rights under the Alberta Labour Code. "It applies to every employer and employee. That is the starting point." A lawyer for the NHL argued that its impossible for a league spanning two countries to operate under different laws for each franchise. Peter Gall pointed out that 23 of the 30 teams are in the United States, where labour laws are federally regulated. The league has always operated under U.S. labour law, he said. The board heard U.S. Federal Court is the final arbiter of any grievances under the contract. "So all of the players on all of the teams have been included in one bargaining unit," Gall said. "The NHLPA has never bargained with individual teams. It has only bargained with the NHL." The labour board deferred a decision on the hearing to a later date. Bill Daly, the leagues deputy commissioner, told the panel that theres never been any individual bargaining between players and their teams. He said its important that all teams operate under the same rules. Blair countered by saying the way the league and union have operated in the past is irrelevant. Blair also pointed out that the NHL had itself applied for a mediator under Alberta labour over the summer in order to ensure it complied with the letter of the provinces law. Daly responded the league wasnt certain as to its legal position in the province. Although it applied for a mediator, it said in its application that it didnt think meetings would have to be held. "You didnt want to meet with him," said BBlair.dddddddddddd "You just wanted him in and out." "Thats not how I would necessarily read it," said Daly. "We were going through an Alberta Labour Code process at the time." Alberta law specifies a mediator must be appointed and given 14 days to work before a lockout vote can be held. The NHLPA argues the league pulled the plug on the talks after only three days. Its unclear what might follow if the board were to rule in favour of the NHLPAs request, but Daly said he couldnt imagine the fallout if that were to happen. "It would be extremely destabilizing to how we do business and how we conduct this sports league," he said. "I dont know how we would proceed in the face of separate units in Alberta." About half a dozen players attended the hearing, including Oilers forward Sam Gagner, goaltender Devan Dubnyk and veteran Ryan Smyth. Last week, players from the Montreal Canadiens launched a similar case in Quebec and the labour relations board there turned down their request for a temporary injunction against the lockout. But it also ruled that more hearings are needed to make a final decision on the application. No date for those hearings has been set. The lockout is nearly a week old and there have been no formal talks between the two sides since Sept. 12. Training camps were to have opened Friday. The league has already cancelled pre-season games through Sept. 30 and several players have signed with teams in Europe. The two sides remain far apart on key economic issues. The NHL believes too much money is being paid out in salaries and has proposed a system to address it. Their most recent offer called for the players share in revenue to be set at 49 per cent next season -- down from 57 per cent in the deal that expired last weekend -- and proposed that it drops to 47 per cent by the end of the six-year deal. The union tabled an offer where the salary cap would be set to fixed increases of two per cent, four per cent and six per cent over the next three years. The system would then revert to a percentage-based system for the final two years.

 Two typically reliable kickers missed
SAN FRANCISCO -- Two typically reliable kickers missed. Devin McCourty Jersey . Penalties doomed both sides. And a furious, thrilling finish to regulation ended with a dramatic dud in overtime: a tie. And nobody particularly likes a tie. Especially not the NFC West-leading 49ers, with a chance to separate themselves against a division rival. Or the Rams, eager to snap a three-game losing streak. San Francisco and St. Louis played the NFLs first tie game in four years as both teams missed overtime field goals in Sundays 24-24 outcome. "I have to say, Ive been doing this a while. I dont think Ive ever been in a game like this," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. "As I told our guys, we had a number of chances to put the game away. And, unfortunately, we didnt." Greg Zuerlein kicked a 53-yarder, but the Rams were penalized 5 yards for delay of game -- which holder Johnny Hekker said was his fault. Zuerlein tried again from 58 as Fisher played for the win, and missed wide right with 2:42 left in OT. San Franciscos David Akers missed wide left on a 41-yard attempt that could have sealed it for the 49ers (6-2-1), who lost quarterback Alex Smith to a first-half concussion. And just when it seemed the 49ers -- and Akers typically reliable left leg -- would have one more chance to win it, San Francisco linebacker Patrick Willis was flagged for holding Lance Kendricks on third down. That extended St. Louis last drive, a costly mistake in a long list of them on an uncharacteristically sloppy day by coach Jim Harbaughs team. "I dont know what to make of this," Willis said. "We have one of the best kickers in the game, and it came down to him at the end and he misses it. That tells you right there something wasnt right." Akers booted a tying 33-yarder with 3 seconds left in regulation after Sam Bradford threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Austin Pettis with 1:09 remaining. On the first play of OT, Bradford completed an 80-yard pass to Danny Amendola that took St. Louis (3-5-1) to the 2, but the play was called back for an illegal formation. Some 49ers fans got up to leave, then returned to their seats. The last tie was between Philadelphia and Cincinnati, 13-13 in 2008. San Francisco played its first tie since 1986. Frank Gore ran for a 20-yard touchdown with 8:23 to go in regulation just 17 seconds after backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick scurried 7 yards for a score. Kaepernick finished 11 for 17 for 117 yards and also had eight carries for 66 yards, calmly leading the Niners after it took several series to find his groove. "It just feels like its unfinished business," San Francisco cornerback Tarell Brown said. Gore ran for 97 yards, while Michael Crabtree made five catches for 70 yards and a 14-yard touchdown from Smith before he left the game. Amendola returned for the Rams following a three-game absence with a shoulder injury to make 11 catches for 102 yards. Bradford went 26 for 39 for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Smith took a hard hit on the back of the neck from linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar after a scramble with 1:10 left in the first quarter. But the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft stayed in and completed his next five passes, including Crabtrees TD. After the hit, Smith was sacked three plays later and also clobbered again on a fourth-and-1 keeper. Doctors indicated to Harbaugh that might have been the play that caused injury. Harbaugh said Smith would be evaluated this week per NFL concussion protocol. He wasnt available to speak to reporters. Smith, who has started 28 straight games, wound up 7 for 8 for 72 yards. The 49ers didnt face Bradford in either meeting last season as the Rams quarterback missed six games with a high left ankle sprain. He had all kinds of extra opportunities this time. "Its a weird feeling. Ive never been a part of a game like that before," Bradford said. "I think the mood in this locker room is disappointment." Late in the third period, the Rams benefited from Dashon Goldsons 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taking off his helmet. Then, defensive tackle Ray McDonald was flagged for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Bradford when he came in under the quarterbacks chin, extending another Rams drive. Zuerlein kicked a 27-yard field goal. The penalties and miscues were certainly uncharacteristic of San Franciscos defence. Crabtrees touchdown midway through the second quarter gave him a TD reception in five straight games against the Rams. It was his third touchdown in two games, and all of his team-leading four TD catches have come in the last five games. Kaepernick took over as Smith went to the bench to be examined by medical personnel and soon left for the locker room. One wild play late in the first half summed up this wacky day. Punter Hekker completed a 21-yard pass to safety Rodney McLeod from the end zone after Chris Culliver didnt cover McLeod. Hekker did it again in the fourth quarter and had a notable 118.8 passer rating on the day. On the Rams 14-play, 18-yard drive over the final minutes of regulation, Hekker faked an end-around and threw a 19-yard completion to Kendricks on fourth-and-8 from the Rams 33. But the Rams defence couldnt get a stop, allowing Kaepernick to get his team back into field-goal range for Akers to tie it. The Rams played without a pair of starters held out for an unspecified team rules violation, cornerback Janoris Jenkins and wide receiver Chris Givens -- and Fisher said afterward he isnt sure if they will play next week at home against the New York Jets. The 49ers will regroup to face the Bears in prime time. "It feels weird," safety Donte Whitner said. "Were about wins around here." Notes: Rams LT Wayne Hunter played after missing two games with a back injury. ... Fans spelled out "THANK YOU VETERANS" in the stands with shiny red, white and blue cards after the first quarter. A special military coin also was used for the pregame toss on Veterans Day. Matt Barkley Jersey . Among those assigned to the AHLs Adirondack Phantoms were forwards Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn. Drafted 11th overall by the Flyers in 2011, Couturier played 77 regular season and 11 playoff games in Philadelphia as a 19-year-old. Tavon Wilson Jersey . China and the US should reflect on how they can help each other and the world, both economically and strategically The two-day China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) concluded in Beijing on Tuesday.OAKLAND, Calif. - Brandon Inge is putting on a home run derby for all his former teammates to see. The ex-bosses, too. Inge hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs for the fourth time in five games, Josh Reddick homered twice and had a career-high five RBIs, and the Oakland Athletics pounded the Detroit Tigers 11-4 on Friday night. "What else can he do?" Reddick said of Inge. "Hes been great. I dont know what those guys across the way were thinking when they let him go." Inge sent a 2-1 pitch into the elevated left-field bleachers in the sixth inning for his fifth homer of the year and fourth since joining the As on April 30 after the Tigers cut him. It was his second longball in two nights after he hit a grand slam in Thursdays 10-6 loss. Inge also delivered a game-ending grand slam on Tuesday against Toronto. Inge became the first player with four games with four or more RBIs in a five-game stretch since Lou Gehrig in 1931, according to information provided by the As from the Elias Sports Bureau. Inges big bat backed Tommy Milone (5-2), who struck out six in seven innings to win for the fourth time in five starts and become Oaklands first pitcher with five victories this year. He retired the final 10 batters he faced in order. "The way I was last year and early this year, it seemed like when I did get good wood on the ball it went right at somebody," Inge said. "So there is a flip side of it, things should usually balance out. When things go like this and you get hot you feel like you get all the breaks. But I also know things dont go like this all the time." Miguel Cabrera singled twice and drove in two runs for the Tigers, who havent won consecutive games since a four-game winning streak from April 15-18. Reddick hit a solo homer in the third and a three-run shot in the seventh for his first career two-homer game, and he matched his career best with four hits. Seth Smith doubled among his three hits and Kila Kaaihue doubled twice and scored two runs for Oakland, which evened the four-game series by scoring its most runs of season. The As outhit the Tigers 13-8 on the way to their first double-digit run total of 2012. Inge let his old team have it again. "I dont know what to say about that," As manager Bob Melvin said. "Its been phenomenal." Inge was acquired by Oakland to fill a void at third base after the As tried several options at the spot following Scott Sizemores season-ending knee injury at the start of spring training. Inge is doing plenty at the plate, too. "Hes really swinging well right now. Hes got a second wind, and its a good thing obviously for him," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Hes swinging the bat as good as Ive seen him swing it for a while. Hes in a pretty good groove right now." Thhis marked his 14th career game came with for or more RBIs -- and he received a nice ovation from the crowd of 26,721 at the Coliseum after flying out to the warning track in centre in the eighth on a warm spring night in the Bay Area.dddddddddddd. Inge was released by the Tigers on April 26 after batting .100 (2 for 20) with one home run and two RBIs in nine games this season. Inge, who turns 35 on May 19, joined his first new team in his 12th major league season. "Its good to feel wanted. Thats an important thing," Inge said. "The other part is coming into this group of guys, theres not one guy on this team who has given me a hard time, if its not joking. The whole attitude of this ballclub is very much laid back, but at the same time you step between the lines and its very much business." Milone fell behind 1-0 in the first after allowing Cabreras double-play grounder, but the As answered in the bottom half against Rick Porcello (3-3). Reddick hit a two-out single and Kaaihue doubled him home. Inge added an RBI single two batters later. Leylands Detroit lineup, featuring two left-handed hitters with slugger Prince Fielder batting cleanup and Andy Dirks in the No. 2 hole, couldnt hang in what became a hitting show by the suddenly powerful As. They came into the game as the second-lowest scoring team in the American League. Porcello was tagged for nine hits and four runs in five innings, falling to 12-5 with a 2.85 ERA in 17 career starts in May. Inge and Co. sure are taking some pressure off ailing rookie As cleanup hitter Yoenis Cespedes, who missed his fourth straight game after straining the top of his left hand before Tuesdays game, when he was a late scratch. "It doesnt hurt a lot but it hurts me some," Cespedes said before the game. Melvin said Cespedes did fine taking some swings in the cage and could play Saturday night. NOTES: Oakland scored its most runs since a 15-5 victory at Boston on Aug. 26, 2011. ... Tigers catcher Alex Avila got the night off, with Gerald Laird starting in his place. Leyland said with a lefty starter, it was a good time to rest Avila and his sore left knee. ... RHP Brandon McCarthy deemed himself ready for Saturdays start after he nursed a tender shoulder this week. ... Dirks is still dealing with a troublesome hamstring. "Id really like to settle him into that 2 spot, but hes really not running full speed," Leyland said. "Im a little concerned about it." Leyland said the teams athletic trainer told him Thursday night Dirks can play through the problem and still be 100 per cent. ... Detroit RHP Luis Marte, on the DL with a strained left hamstring, was set to face hitters in extended spring training Saturday in Lakeland, Fla. ... Reddick and Cliff Pennington pulled a double-steal in the fourth.

The newly minted NL Cy Young Award winner had a purpose
NASHVILLE -- R. Wes Hopkins Jersey .A. Dickey wandered through the sprawling Opryland Hotel on Sunday, dropping into baseballs annual winter meetings for a quick visit. The newly minted NL Cy Young Award winner had a purpose -- nope, nothing to do with getting a new contract from the New York Mets. Not a sightseeing trip, either, to marvel at the river boats, waterfall or "A Country Christmas" decorations inside the complex. Rather, Dickey made the 15-minute drive from his home to see a Mets trainer for a routine checkup after abdominal surgery in October. The knuckleballer did find it a tad bit ironic, however, that when baseballs annual swapfest was last held in this hotel, in 2007, he was in limbo, left off Minnesotas list of protected players and plucked by Seattle in the Rule 5 draft. "Kind of funny, isnt it?" he said to New York reporters. The fates of several other players could take shape over the next few days. Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke top the list of available free agents and Cleveland shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco have been mentioned in trade speculation. Dickey wound up seeing Mets general manager Sandy Alderson. The knuckleballer is signed for $5.25 million next year and would like to add two more guaranteed seasons. Alderson said they chatted for around 10 minutes about things other than a new contract. "R.A.s situation needs to be resolved, but it doesnt necessarily have to be resolved here in Nashville before Thursday," Alderson said. "I dont think weve gotten to the point where we have two positions that cant be bridged. We may get to that point, but I dont think theres been enough to and fro at this point to know that." "I would suspect, yes, that we will have conversations about R.A.," he said. "He does have a certain notoriety. I dont think that we would rely on his ability to sell tickets as a motivator but this is the entertainment business and his uniqueness I think contributes to that as well as baseball result on the field, so there are positives in that regard." The Los Angeles Dodgers, who spent freely in trading for Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford late last season, could be the big spenders this week. It sure wont be the Marlins, who made a splash by signing free agents Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Buehrle at last years meetings, then finished last in the NL East and traded the trio after the season. This time, the Marlins might take a more modest approach, perhaps trying to boost their bench. "Wed like to do some more things," Miami president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said last week. "But are we talking about huge free agents? Im not sure thats the mode were in right now." Executives from all 30 teams will take the opportunity of being under the same roof -- albeit spread out, as the hotel has 2,881 rooms -- to try to shape their clubs for next year. Trying to meet up can be somewhat of a challenge, something a GPS might help. "That would be a good thing. This is brutal," Alderson said. The meetings end Thursday with the Rule 5 draft, where Dickey was once available for anyone willing to take a chance. The first major action at the meetings could come Monday morning. Thats when the Hall of Fames pre-integration era committee will announce whether any new members have been elected to the shrine. The panel, part of what used to be called the Veterans Committee, considered 10 candidates this weekend. Among them were long-ago NL MVPs Marty Marion and Bucky Walters, umpire Hank ODay and former New York Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert, who oversaw the team when it acquired Babe Ruth, won its first six World Series championships and built Yankee Stadium. Hall of Famers Bert Blyleven, Phil Niekro, Don Sutton and Pat Gillick are included on the 16-member panel. Mark Bavaro Jersey .C. -- Cam Newton is everywhere these days. Kyle Arrington Jersey . UFC president Dana White confirmed to the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday that Jones, the current light-heavyweight champion, and Sonnen, the former middleweight who is now returning to the light-heavyweight class, will each coach a team of prospective fighters on the MMA reality show before facing each other for the title. Joe Staley Jersey . It turned out to be that and much more. After a monster three-hour final set, Tsonga finally delivered the knockout blow by breaking Raonics serve to secure a 6-3, 3-6, 25-23 victory and a spot in the third round. Mark Bavaro Jersey . After being told by an Italian reporter that there might be some undeclared gay players on the team, Cassano appeared at a loss for words before responding. "Thats their problem, but I hope not. ... But I dont know," he said, then added that he hoped his answer sufficed.FIVE QUICK TORONTO RAPTORS THOUGHTS How time flies! Starting my 15th year as a broadcaster on Raptors games. Its Media Day at the ACC on Monday and then off to Halifax to watch Training Camp. A few quick thoughts on a Monday morning. Look forward to the season. 1. POINT GUARD: Dont ever count Jose Calderon out. Ask T.J. Ford, Jarrett Jack and Jerryd Bayless, just to name a few. Proud guy and good player. Kyle Lowry will earn his minutes. Good competition and depth at this spot. 2. 1st ROUND PICKS: Andrea-DeMar-Ed-Jonas-Terrence...its time. The lifeblood of any good organization is the talent level, maturation and development of your first round picks. In the next 12-18 months, all five have to make the steps necessary to be impact players. The future direction of the franchise will be determined by how good they can become. 3. DWANE CASEY: Finally gets a full camp and season with his team. Did a nice job last season and I fully expect that his style/personality will truly take hold this season. Talent level is better. Good enough? Not sure yet. Hell hold guys accountable and demand lots. Hell make a difference and the culture he has/will create will lead to growth in the long run.dddddddddddd 4. WING SPOTS (2/3 Positions): Playoff Team? Lots has to go right. The NBA in 2012 is based upon having talented perimeter people. Is this group good enough? Lots of skepticism when it comes to this area. Consistent play/productivity is a must. DeMar DeRozan has to truly arrive. Linas Kleiza has to make shots and look like he did two years ago before he was injured. Landry Fields has to be a steady two-way guy and Terrence Ross has to surprise. Lots to ask? Yes. Has to happen if youre going to compete in this league. 5 SCHEDULE (Atlantic Division):  Strength of schedule is a major factor to watch. Toronto has 16 games against four teams (Boston, New York, Brooklyn and Philly) that are supposed to be playoff teams. Not easy. Gotta get one of eight playoff spots. Tougher road getting wins in this division than the other two Eastern divisions. Keep an eye on how the Raptors play in division games. Cant make the playoffs unless theyre respectable in these games and win their share.

FIANO, Italy -- Joel Sjoholm of Sweden shot an 8-under 64 Thursday to take a one stroke lead after the first round of the Italian Open. Antrel Rolle Jersey . He picked up three shots in his last four holes. "I hit it basically everywhere," Sjoholm said. "I was in the woods a lot and made some funny birdies today. It was a big, fighting 64 rather than a solid 64. But its great fun to be 8 under." Lee Slattery of England was at 65 and seven players were two shots back: Englishmen Richard McEvoy, Richard Bland and David Howell, South Africans Garth Mulroy and Keith Horne, Victor Dubuisson of France and Gareth Maybin of Northern Ireland. Ibrahimovic put Sweden ahead in the second minute
GOTEBORG, Sweden -- Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored one goal and set up another to help Sweden beat Iceland 3-2 Wednesday in the hosts first friendly warm-up for the European Championship. Ryan Mundy Jersey . Ibrahimovic put Sweden ahead in the second minute, meeting a cross from Sebastian Larsson with a superb left-footed volley from just inside the area. He then delivered a perfect cross for Ola Toivonen to tap in from close range in the 14th as the hosts looked to be in a high-scoring mood. However, the Swedish attack fizzled out after that, and Ajax striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson pulled one back for Iceland with a strong header just inside the far post in the 27th. After a flurry of second-half substitutions, Christian Wilhelmsson added the third with a right-footed shot from a tough angle inside the area in the 78th and Hallgrimur Jonasson headed in a corner for Iceland in injury time. Sweden was playing against its former coach Lars Lagerback for the first time. Lagerback led Sweden to five straight major tournaments between 2000 and 2008, but was replaced by Erik Hamren after failing to reach the 2010 World Cup and took over Iceland last year. Hamren is pinning his hopes on Ibrahimovic going into his first major tournament as coach, and deployed the AC Milan striker in a No. 10 role behind fellow forward Markus Rosenberg in the first half. Judging by the opening 15 minutes of Wednesdays game, thats likely where hell playing at the Euros as well when Sweden take on Ukraine, England and France in Group D. "We know hes good in any position hes playing in, but he seems to enjoy that role," Hamren said. "A goal and an assist isnt bad." Sweden looked far from impressive for the final 75 minutes, however, and Hamren acknowledged that the team has to get a lot better defensively before its Euro 2012 opener against Ukraine in Kyiv. The teams staff has to get better at spelling as well. Wilhelmsson, the former Roma and Bolton winger who now plays for Saudi Arabian team Al Ahli, was playing in a shirt that had his name misspelled on the back. "I havent been in the team in a while, so I guess its not that easy for the federation to get my name right," Wilhelmsson joked. UFC president Dana White called the former Olympic judo bronze medallist "the whole package." "This girl is nasty," White told "The Jim Rome Show." "She might be beautiful on the outside but shes a Diaz brother on the inside." he added, referring to the prickly Nick and Nate Diaz. "Shes a real fighter and shes very talented." Rousey (6-0) has won all of her MMA fights in the first round via armbar. She is coming off an August win over Victorias Sarah Kaufman and previously beat Julia (The Jewel) Budd of Port Moody, B.C. "Okay I admit it...Im officially a (at)ufc fighter :) SO excited! Cant wait to debut! Let (at)danawhite know who you want my 1st opponent to be!," tweeted Rousey. The 25-year-old California fighter has become something of a media darling of late, profiled in Sports Illustrated and featured on the cover of ESPN The Magazines body issue. Since dethroning champion Miesha Tate in March, Rousey has helped ring the bell to open the NASDAQ trading day and spoken to the New York and California state senates about her sport. The five-foot-six 135-pounder has wasted little time making her name. Rouseys pro MMA career has lasted all of seven minutes 39 seconds in the cage Only one of her fights has taken more than a minute. Tate lasted four minutes 27 seconds before tapping out. Rousey made her name in Strikeforce, which is owned by the UFC. But the UFC reportedly plans to shut Strikeforce down and the signing of Rousey signals the start of a new era for women in the promotion. The UFC has already showcased Rousey in a well-documented cameo as a guest coach on an episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality TV show. In the past, White has insisted there isnt enough depth to support womens MMA. But he says he does have a good selection of opponents for Rousey in the 135-pound division. The other big name in womens fighting is Brazilian Cris (Cyborg) Santos, but the Strikeforce featherweight (145-pound) champion has trouble making Rouseys weight class and is currently serving a one-year drug suspension. Former star fighter Gina Carano has moved on to a movie career. Rousey comes from a distinguished judo background. Mother AnnMaria de Mars, in 1984, was the first American to win a world judo championship. Ronda had her first judo tournament on her 11th birthday. At 17, she was the youngest judo competitor at the Athens Olympics despite teearing her anterior cruciate ligament in 2003.dddddddddddd In 2008, she won a bronze medal in Beijing. She lost her quarter-final to a former world champion but reached the medal podium via the repechage. Her judo training has taken her to Montreal in the past. "I absolutely loved it -- it was one of my favourite time periods actually when I was training," she told The Canadian Press in a 2011 interview. "The only thing that kind of sucked was I didnt have a car and I was very dependent on public transportation. Waiting in a blizzard at a bus stop to go to a gym was not that cool." Rousey had planned to take a year off after Beijing. In the interim, she worked as a bartender and narrowed her career choices to being a rescue swimmer for the Coast Guard or MMA fighter. Her first pro fight was a 25-second submission win over Ediane Gomes in March 2011. The armbar is her mothers move, she said. "Its kind of been drilled into my head ever since I was a little kid ... to the point that I dont even think about it. It just kind of comes naturally." "I tell people its kind of like doing algebra. If you understand the concept of algebra, its easy to solve any kind of equation. You dont have to practise doing one equation over and over and over again so you get good at solving that (one equation)." Prior to signing with Strikeforce last year, Rousey was juggling three jobs while trying to train as a fledgling MMA fighter. She worked overnights in a gym, taught judo during the day and worked as a canine physical therapy assistant. The jobs took a toll. "I ended up driving back from a graveyard shift, I just fell asleep while driving and smashed my face into the steering wheel," Rousey told The Canadian Press earlier this year. "Thats why I have a deviated septum, not from getting punched in the face, but from having my car run into my face." The ESPN magazine shoot showed a smiling Rousey with her hands -- covered in pink wrap with the logo Built to Fight -- in a punching stance with a tattoo of the Olympic rings just visible at the top of her thigh. "Im like a Monet," she told the magazine. "From far away, I can look like a prissy model, but when you come closer you see the wear and tear of a fighter. "Women dont have to trade their femininity for athleticism," she continued. "And you dont have to look like an anorexic eight-year-old to be considered beautiful. Skinny girls look good in clothes but fit chicks look good naked."

More than four hours before game time
MIAMI -- More than four hours before game time, Dwyane Wade was alone on the Miami Heat practice court, just getting some shots up by himself. Courtney Upshaw Jersey . No coaches around, no teammates, no trainers, just him, a ball and his thoughts. It sparked his best scoring effort of the season. Wade scored 34 points, LeBron James added 21 and the Heat rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the Brooklyn Nets 102-89 on Saturday night to remain atop the Eastern Conference. "I knew this was a big game for us, to come in versus a team thats been playing very well," Wade said. "And I wanted to sure I came out ready. So I wanted to get in early and made sure I did everything possible." Ray Allen scored 13 and Norris Cole finished with 12 for the Heat, who won their sixth straight. Miami trailed by 14 points in the second quarter and was down by nine at halftime, before outscoring Brooklyn 52-30 in the second half. Andray Blatche scored 20 points for Brooklyn, which had won five in a row. Gerald Wallace had 13 points, Joe Johnson added 12 and Deron Williams finished with 10 points and 12 assists. The Nets were 10 for 31 from the field in the second half and lost to Miami for the 12th straight time. "Just a tale of two halves," Nets coach Avery Johnson said. "We just seemed to have worn down a little bit. We made some mistakes there thats not our team. Its uncharacteristic of us. Were a team that takes care of the ball." Wade added seven assists and shot 14 for 20 for Miami. He reached the 30-point mark for the first time this season when he took an alley-oop pass from Allen and slammed the ball for a 90-81 edge with 5:14 left. He added a 10-footer on Miamis next possession for the Heats first double-digit edge of the game, helping the reigning NBA champions move to 8-0 at home this season. "This was a step-forward game for us," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "It was good to see our guys connected again. We didnt necessarily play our best basketball in the first half, but in some ways, it was our best win." Miami has made a living off fourth-quarter comebacks this season, already winning six games where it trailed at some point in the final 12 minutes. The latest Heat rally came a quarter earlier than usual. Down 73-65 with 4:41 left in the third after trailing all night long, Miami ran off 10 straight points, and needed just 93 seconds to make it all happen. Wade scored to get the Heat within two, then had a steal and dunk that tied the game. James had another steal-and-slam to give the Heat their first edge, 75-73 with 3:08 left in the period. James set up Mike Miller for a 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:51 left for an 80-75 edge, capping a 15-2 Miami burst. And then Miami slammed the door with defence. Brooklyn had just one field goal in the first 9:06 of the final quarter, missing 10 of 11 shots in that stretch as Miami -- despite shooting 5 for 16 over the same stretch -- pulled away. "Were a veteran ballclub and we understand that in order for us to win ballgames, in order for us to compete and defend our title, we have to defend," James said. "It was good to see we took care of that tonight." The Heat won by 30 the first time these teams met this season. It took the Nets only a few minutes to show this matchup would be much different. Midway through the first quarter, Brooklyn was already holding a 15-4 lead. James had two fouls by the end of the quarter -- the second coming on the offensive end in the final seconds -- and the Nets were up 24-16 after the opening 12 minutes, holding Miami 10 points below its first-quarter average for the season. Brooklyn continued to control the game in the second, going up 35-21 early in the quarter and still leading by 13 after Spoelstra got whistled for a technical foul, apparently upset with a no-call where Wade was knocked to the floor on a drive. The Heat seemed sparked by Spoelstras technical, getting within five, but the Nets survived a brief Miami flurry and took a 59-50 lead into halftime, helped in large part by Johnson connecting on three jumpers in the span of about a minute. "I think we are just as good as them," Wallace said. "We know what weve got to do offensively. You all watched the game. I think we were in the game until we pretty much until we started with unforced turnovers and started giving them easy baskets, but other than that I think we controlled this game, we had an opportunity to win and we should have won." NOTES: James spent part of his day tracking his alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, winning a state football championship -- and yes, the reigning NBA MVP, who got a Heat championship ring, was given a Kentucky NCAA title ring and helped the U.S. win Olympic gold in London this year, wants a ring for the football title as well. "Im making a call," James said. ... Players from both teams wore red-and-white shooting shirts in recognition of World AIDS Day, and coaches wore red ribbons to commemorate the day as well. ... The Nets have not won in Miami since Feb. 1, 2008. ... James has scored at least 20 points in all 15 Miami games this season. ... He did even better once he relaxed. Fox took advantage of a strong start to beat Chris Williams, the worlds top-ranked amateur, in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills on Friday. "I was nervous the first couple of matches, and for some reason, this match I kind of felt at home," Fox said. "I was finally playing with the galleries and enjoyed myself out there, and really just had fun." The 21-year-old Fox, from Hendersonville, Tenn., beat the 21-year-old Williams, from Moscow, Idaho, 4 and 2. A senior at the Tennessee-Chattanooga, Fox will play Brandon Hagy of Westlake Village, Calif., in the semifinals Saturday. The 21-year-old Hagy, one of two golfers from the University of California to reach the semifinals, beat Cheng-Tsung Pan of Taiwan 4 and 3. Michael Weaver of Fresno, Calif., who also a member of Cals golf team, beat Ricardo Gouveia of Portugal 4 and 3. Hell meet Alabamas Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., in the other semifinal. Thomas edged Australian Oliver Goss 2-up. Fox made two birdies in a bogey-free front nine. Williams had two bogeys. "This is by far the best thing Ive done in my career, by far," Fox said. "I knew I had to play well and had to bring my A game, and luckily I did," said Fox, who advanced to match play after winning a playoff in stroke-play qualifying. "But we started out and I got 2-up through four, and to be 4-up after nine was beyond expecttations.dddddddddddd I thought it was going to be a really close match. I give him respect for being the No. 1 amateur, but luckily I got it done." Like Fox, Weaver parlayed a strong start into a victory over Gouveia, who hadnt trailed in any of his matches before the quarterfinals. Weaver was up by two holes after five and stretched his advantage to 4-up after nine. He failed to advance to match play in last year when he missed the cut by a stroke and had to survive a playoff just to get into match play this year. "Im having a great week. Couldnt be happier," Weaver said. "Just to make it through the playoff was great. I feel like Ive played smart and Ive put myself in a great position." The 19-year-old Thomas, 19, the Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the nations top collegiate player, was only 1-up on Goss heading into No. 18. Thomas was able to make par and the 18-year-old Goss, an incoming freshman at Tennessee, missed a long putt from the lip of the green to try to square the match. "It was a hard match," Thomas said. "Youre obviously not going to get any easy matches at this point. It feels great to be moving on and Im very, very honoured." Hagy birdied the seventh hole to take his first lead. He stretched his lead to 2-up when Pan, who plays for Washington, bogeyed No. 10. "I think that stretch right there ... was huge," Hagy said. "Then I birdied the next hole to go 1-up. That was a huge swing. I played really consistent the whole rest of the way."

It marked the 52nd straight victory at home for Laval
QUEBEC -- Boris Bede, a native of Toulon, France, scored 17 points, including a 5-for-5 performance in field-goal attempts on Sunday as the No. Irving Fryar Jersey .2-ranked Laval Rouge et Or rallied to defeat McGill 33-15 in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football action. It marked the 52nd straight victory at home for Laval (1-0), the nine-time defending RSEQ conference champions. They trailed 9-7 after the opening quarter, led 19-9 at the half and 24-12 after three quarters. McGill (0-1), which officially kicked off their 132nd season, got all of their points from rookie kicker Samy Rassy, an engineering junior from Montreal who was also 5-for-5 in field goals in his CIS debut. It marked the eighth time in McGill history that a Redmen place-kicker had made five in a game and it was one field-goal shy of the single-game school record held by Glenn Miller since 1984. The game was a defensive struggle with McGill generating only 170 yards of offence compared to 318 by Laval. Rassy staked the Redmen to a 9-0 lead on field-goals from 42, 18 and 26 yards before the Laval offence awoke. He added a 28-yarder in the third and a 37-yard effort in the final quarter. Rouge et Or quarterback Tristan Grenon of Quebec City completed 18 of 31 passes for only 160 yards. He connected for a pair of touchdowns, however, and was picked off once. Grenon ignited the comeback by hooking up with Yannick Morin-Plante of Drummondville, Que., for a 24-yard TD strike on the last play of the opening quarter then found Maxime Boutin of Quebec City alone in the endzone for an 11-yard TD toss to put Laval ahead 17-9 with four minutes remaining in the first half. A couple of safeties conceded in the endzone made it 21-9 for Laval early in the second half. Six consecutive field goals rounded out the scoring, including four by Bede, who had registered a 27-yard field-goal early in the second. He also hit from distances of 39, 32 and 31, respectively, to make it 30-12., then added his fifth in the final minute of the game from 41 yards out. Sophomore Dallon Kuprowski of Kanata, Ont., started at quarterback for the Redmen and completed 17 of 30 attempts for 145 yards. he was temporarily relieved by Jonathan Collin of Greenfield Park, Que., who was picked off on his first play from scrimmage and ended up 0-for-3 on the day. Mike Quick Jersey . NEWCASTLE, England -- Newcastle manager Alan Pardew signed an eight-year contract with the Premier League club. The 51-year-old Pardew took over after Chris Hughton was fired in December 2010, signing a five-year deal at a time when expectations were low. Pardew kept Newcastle in the top division at the end of their first campaign, and then paved the way for a remarkable second season. Newcastle finished fifth in the league in May to secure a return to European football in the Europa League after an absence of five years. "Alan has done a fantastic job over the last couple of years and has proved what a great Premier League manager he is," managing director Derek Llambias said. "t;I have total respect for him in all football matters and have an excellent relationship with him, which I think benefits the club enormously.dddddddddddd." Newcastle sees giving Pardew a long-term deal as key to helping the club capture its first domestic trophy since 1955. "If you look at clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have shown that stability gives you the best platform to achieve success and that is the model we wish to emulate here," Llambias said. "We are looking to build on the success we had last season." Ferguson has been in charge of United since 1986, while Wenger joined Arsenal a decade later.

Steven Jyles, Loiusiana Monroe (7th CFL/3rd Edmonton) What goes around comes around, just ask Jyles who started in Edmonton and is now back after stops in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and Toronto. Steven is an extremely enticing quarterback with the complete skill set to succeed in the CFL. I believe, in spite of all the different teams hes played on, Steven has not been in the right scenario to have success. Timing, bad luck, injuries, system and inexperience have all played a factor in Jyles first six years being nothing more than mediocre. But like I said, Jyles has all the parts and Tillman is counting on them coming together, this second time around in an Eskimos uniform. Preseason play indicates he still has a few things to work out. Hence keeping the veteran QB Kerry Joseph... Kerry Joseph, McNeese State (10th CFL/3rd Edmonton) Kerry continues to bulldoze his way to an impressive CFL career, albeit most of the time not being shown the love he deserves. I encourage everyone to look at his bio on the Edmonton Eskimos website. What he has accomplished is truly incredible, check it out! Remember, ooften times this game is about trust and relationships.dddddddddddd Joseph and GM Eric Tillman have a history. Tillman brought Kerry into this league as a Ottawa Renegade, and they went to the Big Dance together in Saskatchewan, winning it in 07. You also have to remember that Tillman sent Joseph packing to Toronto after that season. We have a reoccurring theme here! Joseph is a proven and bonified quarterback with a veteran presence that will be big for not only Jyles but the other two young guns in Edmonton as well. Matt Nichols, Eastern Washington (3rd CFL/3rd Edmonton) and Jeremiah Masoli, Mississippi (1st CFL/1st Edmonton) Matt Nichols was and is highly regarded in and around Eskimo territory. His pre-season play was impressive at times and showed signs that made you say "okay, I get it!" It would be nice to see Edmonton cultivate another great QB, and thats what they are trying to do with Nichols. Masoli this pre-season has looked like The Mississippi Scrambler. This is understandable, as hes just getting his feet wet in this wild and crazy Canadian game. One thing is for sure, we know he has some moxy, and scrambling ability, which are always positive attributes to possess in the CFL.

Mark Sanchez was once the face of the franchise
FLORHAM PARK, N. Jonathan Goodwin Jersey .J. -- Mark Sanchez was once the face of the franchise, the quarterback expected to lead the New York Jets to a long-awaited Super Bowl appearance. There were lofty comparisons to Joe Namath just two years ago. Now, Sanchez might not even be the starter anymore. Rex Ryan is in quite the quarterback quandary, undecided on whether it will be Sanchez, Greg McElroy or Tim Tebow under centre Sunday at Jacksonville. "Well, I think right now," Ryan said Monday, "I definitely need a little more time to make that decision." Not only do the Jets have a quarterback controversy, but they have one that involves three players who all make for intriguing options. "Im comfortable and confident with all three quarterbacks," Ryan said. "I think all three guys have, now, proven they can win in this league." While it was widely thought Tebow would be the guy to eventually take Sanchezs job, McElroy made a strong case for himself in leading the Jets (5-7) to a 7-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. "Thats a decision above my pay grade," defensive end Mike DeVito said with a laugh when asked who he thinks should start. "I trust all three of those guys." Sanchez was pulled Sunday with 4:48 left in the third quarter, and McElroy came in and led the Jets to the only touchdown of the game on his first NFL drive. Fans chanted "Mc-El-Roy!" throughout the game and booed Sanchez loudly nearly each time he stepped on or off the field, particularly after each of his three interceptions. Sanchez went a miserable 10 of 21 for 97 yards before taking a spot on the sideline. McElroys numbers were hardly eye-popping -- 5 of 7 for 29 yards -- but the fact he energized the team and the crowd meant a lot for a squad still harbouring playoff hopes. "It was a good experience for me," McElroy said on a conference call. "Theres been no indication, no information at this point (on wholl start)." Ryan wants to consult his coaching staff to have "an open discussion" and review the game film before making a decision, which he expects to have before practice Wednesday. Tebows health will also likely play a role after he was inactive Sunday while recovering from two broken ribs. He is listed as the teams No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart and was medically cleared to play against the Cardinals, but Ryan decided against making Tebow active because he felt hes "not near 100 per cent." Tebow had additional X-rays on his ribs Sunday to see how theyre healing and was still awaiting the results. "Could I have forced it and went out there and played?" Tebow said on a conference call. "I think I could have managed it." He spoke to Ryan about being active for the game, but wasnt successful in talking the coach into playing him -- as he did on Thanksgiving night. Tebow ended up not playing against New England while McElroy was inactive, a decision Ryan later regretted. Tebow was expected to have a major role in the offence, but instead has been just a spare part averaging about seven offensive snaps per game. After being the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart, he could see the No. 3 leapfrog over him and start for the Jets. "Im not into hypotheticals," Tebow said. "Im just trying to get healthy right now." Now comes the biggest call of Ryans head coaching career: Does he give Sanchez one more shot at saving his job? Does he let McElroy show the team what he can do for a whole game? Or, does he go with Tebow, provided hes healthy enough, in front of the quarterbacks hometown Jaguars? "There are a lot of tough decisions you make as a coach," Ryan said. "A lot of times, its easier when you put the three priorities (ahead of everything): the team, the team, the team. Youve got to take away personal feelings and whatever, because its bigger than me or this person or that person." Ryan was seen in the locker room consoling Sanchez after the game, his arm on his shoulder as the two spoke for a few minutes. They have been connected at the hip since they both got here -- they stand side-by-side during the national anthem before every game. Ryan took the job in 2009 and the Jets traded up to draft Sanchez with the No. 5 overall pick a few months later. Sanchez had never been benched for poor play before Sunday, despite fans and media calling for him to sit at various points during his nearly four seasons. But, he experienced terrific success in his first two years, helping lead the Jets to consecutive AFC title games for the first time in franchise history. This is a team that hasnt won -- or even participated in -- a Super Bowl since Namath won it in 1969. The Jets have had a lengthy list of solid but far from super quarterbacks over the years since Namath, including Richard Todd, Ken OBrien, Boomer Esiason, Neil ODonnell, Vinny Testaverde, Chad Pennington and even a one-year cameo by Brett Favre. Ryan and the Jets thought they had the guy who could do it in Sanchez. That all seems like ancient history now. Sanchez could still reclaim his job and bounce back, maybe even this week. But Ryan has now set the precedent: Play the way youre expected to, or youre going to sit. "I need to understand where the mistakes came from," Sanchez said after the game. "Keep studying, keep preparing, be ready to play next week and see what happens." Regardless of what Ryan decides, whether its Sanchez, Tebow or McElroy, DeVito doesnt believe it will affect the players negatively. "I think in most locker rooms it could do that, but not in this locker room," DeVito said. "Well face this just like every other situation, as a family, and it definitely wont divide this group of guys. Last year, I mightve had a different answer for you, but this year I have no doubt that this team is going to stick together." ------ NOTES: Ryan had good injury news, saying he doesnt think TE Dustin Keller has a high ankle sprain, although his status for Sunday is uncertain. X-rays on RB-KR Joe McKnights ribs were negative after he left the game in the second half. ... Ryan praised the defence, which allowed just 137 yards against Arizona and held the Cardinals to 0 for 15 on third downs. He added that CB Antonio Cromartie, who held WR Larry Fitzgerald to one catch for 23 yards, "continues to play at a super-Pro Bowl level." He also pushed for Cromartie to be selected for the Pro Bowl. "They shouldnt even have one if that kid doesnt get in there," Ryan said. NaVorro Bowman Jersey men's . But it seemed nerves were a factor in their performance when one of the women missed catching the ball on a transfer and had to scramble to get it back, a major competition error. The Canadian groups two closest rivals that will challenge them for the bubble eighth position are Great Britain and Japan, both of whom topped them today.
